We need some space to drive around, as the bus is powered by a car engine and so can go wherever you or we decide, within the bounds of safety and practicality. We cannot operate indoors due to exhaust fumes.
Rides normally last for between 5-6 minutes, depending upon the size of the area available.
Any kind of private road or track is suitable, however, we cannot run on public roads unless closed by the Police, as the bus is not road legal.
Grassed areas such as parks, school fields, showgrounds and football pitches are fine, as are large gardens and gravel paths. We need to avoid very muddy or boggy fields and steep hills.
We normally drive in and around the public on showgrounds, slowly weaving between stalls, marquees, etc. We drive very slowly, and have not yet had a problem being seen or avoided.
For private parties we have found local village halls with a sports field outside to be good venues.
What Do We Charge for Shows, Fetes and Fayres?
We have 2 ways of arranging hire / payment, depending upon the size of the event.
Charge Per Ride - We attend your weekend event with Bus, Driver & Conductor, and make a charge for each rider. At some events children get a Red Bus hand stamp as a ticket, which then allows them to have subsequent rides at a reduced rate. 2011 prices are £1.50 first ride, £1 all subsequent rides.
At the end of the show we make a contribution to the organiser based on a percentage of the days takings - Generally 10%. (Normally on trust, but you are welcome to cash up with us).
This is the normal arrangement for weekend Country Fairs, Steam Rallies, Shows and school fetes.
Private Hire - We charge to attend, and supply Bus, Driver & Conductor. The organiser can then decide on what fee to charge per ride, and collect all takings or allow children to ride on the bus as many times as they wish.
This is the usual arrangement for Small Events, Parties, Corporate Events and Council run events where children can ride free of charge.
Hire Charges depend on time of year and distance but are approximately £250 - £350 in high season and £150 - £250 in low season.
